Welcome to our Church today

This building dates from 1871, but there have been Methodist Christians in Shetland for almost 200 years.

The building was named in memory of Dr Adam Clarke who, as President of the Wesleyan Methodist Conference, encouraged the early Methodist mission to Shetland.

Dr Clarke responded to letters from John Nicolson who had returned to Shetland around 1820, after serving in the army. Nicolson began to establish Methodist congregations in the westside of Shetland

Almost 200 years later, there are Methodist Churches across Shetland - from Haroldswick on the north isle of Unst …

… the congregation at East Yell ...

… and south to include Ireland Church, overlooking St Ninian’s Isle.

There is an active congregation on remote Fair Isle.

We share our Christian faith with people of all ages.

Messy Church enables families to have fun and share in God’s love.

The minister’s house next door is also used for church meetings.

Church members meet to study the Bible and pray together.

Our monthly Pop-Up shop includes home-made soup and cakes for lunch.

Over 250 local school children experienced the Christmas story here.

At Culswick, in West Mainland, is a tiny chapel in a field ...

… but the Culswick Christmas carol service is always  popular, and followed by cakes and drinks!

On Good Friday, Christians from several churches joined together in a walk of witness through Lerwick.

We celebrated Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Day in worship, including decorating a cross with flowers.

The symbol of death is full of life, to remind us of God’s love in Jesus - very much alive.

Enjoy your visit to Shetland.  Wherever you travel from here, may you know God’s loving presence and his invitation to follow Jesus, - ‘the way, the truth and the life’.

Please take one of our gift packs, containing further information and free Christian literature.
