In March 2021, we established ‘Fresh Start Community Gardening Group’. This provided an opportunity for a number of people to be part of an outdoor activity, taking care of a community garden in central Lerwick (Park Lane Gardens). We also had the opportunity to support two local residents with helping to restore their gardens.

Our gardening team includes participants from Food for the Way, church members and others who have valued being able to work together safely during the pandemic. The gardens are a haven of peace and include newly installed benches, with one in memory of one of our much loved participants who died in Decmeber 2021. 

The gardening group meet on Monday mornings (10am-1pm) and on Thursday (10am-1pm, 2-4pm) and welcome additional help if you would like to join in. Currently the morning crew are working at the Garthpool site and on the Thursday afternoon at Park Lane gardens.
